DSO B 3 Nanoboys 0(Walkover)
DSO A 2 Ascendas 0
The only game of the night was a well contested one with DSO A fielding a weaker side against a strong Ascendas Team. For most of the game, the battle was in midfield. It was more like a game between Ryan and Peng Yeow. These two hardworking players practically never stopped running. While both sides had equal chances at goal, neither failed to score any and both teams went into the break in a deadlock.
The 2nd half seemed evenly contested but in the run of play, DSO scored in the 13th minute. Fitness was what Ascendas lacked to counter their opponents and that made the difference. Gaps in their defense were exploited and DSO sealed the game in the 18th minute with a second goal through a counter attack. And with that, the relentless DSO A march on as the favorites.

DSO B 3 vs KUNG FU PANDAS 0
DSO A 9 vs TEAM ASCENDAS 3
A total of 12 goals were scored in this game with 4 bearing the trademark Brazilian Maicon’s goal from the World Cup game against North Korea. Team Ascendas shocked DSO A with 2 goals within 3 mins. DSO A had to get back their game organized quickly and was lucky to be awarded a penalty for infringement in the “D”. The penalty gave DSO A momentum to crawl their way back into the game and score 2 more goals for a 3-2 advantage at half time. An interesting point in the first half was Team Ascendas having 55% ball possession compared to DSO A’s 45%.
The second half started with a bit of confusion with Team Ascendas doing a Liverpool. Not only did they switch players, they also switched the position of their players. It was blind Kamikaze football from Team Ascendas. DSO A scored 4 goals within 5mins. When Team Ascendas decided to bring Ryan back on in the last 5mins, it was a bit too late to make any impact. Team Ascendas could have given DSO A a hard time if they had kept with their first half game plan. But having said that, Team Ascendas clearly showed the weakness of DSO A. DSO A is ever guilty of lapses in concentration especially in defense and this allows goals to be scored against them. And their only defense at the moment is attack.
Out of 12 goals, 6 goals were admirable. 2 long range pile drivers from each side and 4 acute angled squeeze into goal out of the impossible. Kudos to Team Ascendas who scored 3 beautiful goals.
SAIPEM MALVEVENTE 3 vs NANO BOYS 2
This was a game played with fiery passion, electrifying emotions, robustness, plenty of drama and action and perhaps a little bit of comedy as well. It was very much like Netherlands taking on Spain but with Netherlands ending the game with a 1-0 win. That’s how one would describe and summarize this game between Saipem and Nano Boys.
Saipem had no change in their approach to their game. Just like the Dutch, their style and approach sometimes does work and can win games which saw them contesting for top prize in the finals.
Nano Boys did not allow themselves to be intimated by Saipem and played the same physical game at Saipem’s level. This made the game look like the final game in South Africa. The goal difference speaks volumes of Nano Boy’s effort to match Saipem’s hard game of football. Not matching Saipem physically in the game by past teams had been disastrous. Saipem is very capable of taking advantage of the physically weaker teams and unleashing a fury of goals against their opponents.
Saipem had superiority in ball possession but Nano Boys balanced it with a high work rate to keep Saipem at bay. It is worthy to note that Saipem scored 2 beautiful goals and scraped in another which was a very soft goal to be conceded by Nano Boys. If only Nano Boys were more alert and had not lost their concentration on that soft goal, the game would have ended with a draw.
The game ended in Saipem being both very lucky and very unlucky. Lucky because Nano Boys conceded a soft goal the first half. And unlucky because of the way Saipem conceded their goals. In fact it was comical goals with a déjà vu effect. A Saipem player who lost the ball in their own half stated shouting “No…No… No…” which caused confusion for the last man who lost his concentration and allowed Nano Boys to slot in the both goals. It looked like comedy at the highest level. The last man from Saipem stopped to look at his screaming team mate and subsequently lost his sight on the ball allowing Nano Boys to score.
Great game indeed. Well done Saipem and Nano Boys.
